Friday 17 August 2012: The Enemy

I started at sea when I was very young and worked for a company called Spliethoff. They were not so big in those days, I reckon they had six or seven ships. Most of the time we carried timber, paper or salt and Wagenborg was a shipping company with more or less the same core-business. The difference between the two companies was like water and fire. We regarded them as the enemy. Now both companies are awful big, I estimate they manage at least 75 vessels each. And much much bigger than 36 years ago. I now see the imbicility of regarding a shipping company as an enemy.
I even like their company colors!
