Friday 17 August 2012: Fly on ragwort
Another fly photo today (sorry!). This time, it was something like a flesh-fly (Sarcophagidae) or a relative of the house-fly (Muscidae) sitting on ragwort, a native plant that has a pretty bad press but is ecologically important for.many insect species, despite the health risk it poses to horses and cattle. Anyway, I find these flies very difficult to identify from a single photo!
