Friday 17 August 2012: Music week - just one cornet
This is my son's cornet. A rushed picture tonight as we're packing for Ambleside tomorrow.
A cornet has about the same length tube as a trumpet - both at somewhere between 140 and 148 cm for a B flat instrument. A trumpet's bore is roughly straight, only flaring at the bell whereas a cornet's bore is conical slowly getting wider and wider towards the bell.
This difference gives the instruments different intonations - the brassier sound of a trumpet against the more mellow bright sound of a cornet.
So that concludes music week. I'm banking now on some stunning Lakes landscapes.
Have a great weekend everybody!
