Thursday 16 August 2012: Hike
BACKBLIP
Another lovely day today. We started off with Larkyn playing with her toys in the front room, in the same place where I used to play with my toys as a girl. I cooked breakfast while she played, then after eating breakfast together, we played for a while together in the front room. It was fun.
Then, mid-morning, we went for a bit of a hike. To me, it was a walk on a steady incline, but for Larkyn, I would call it a hike. I had our rugged stroller with us, and she rode in it for a while, but after about 10 minutes, she started asking to get out and walk. So, she ended up walking for more than half our walk. The ground was pretty uneven in most places, so she fell down quite a few times, but always jumped up, brushed herself off, saying, "I'm okay." She loved playing with everything. At one point, she came upon a mole hill, with fresh, black, mountain dirt, which, of course, needed to be touched and smooshed - you get the idea. Her hands were decidedly black after that, then as we walked, she kept wiping her face, thus the smudged face in this photo. Here she is, sitting on a log that she had just climbed over, perhaps taking a 3-second breather before hopping up and continuing.
I had so many photos to choose from today, but something about this image grabbed me, with her smudged face.
After the walk, we returned to the cabin for lunch, then we went upstairs to clean the bedrooms up there (which hadn't yet been used this year) so we could move up there and make room for my brother and parents, who arrived just before Larkyn's nap. Larkyn was really excited to take her nap in the "NEW" room. She slept in it last year, too, but she doesn't seem to remember . . . :-)
