Ffestiniog Railway

A wet day so we headed for the Ffestiniog Railway to catch a steam train from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffesitinog. Its a wonderful route up through Snowdonia National Park. When we got off the train we headed for Llechwedd Slate Caverns where we took trips down into the old slate workings. Its incredible to see how they used to get out the slate for all those roofing tiles.

Back on the railway and we got a good close up of this Fairlie double engine as it took on water before hauling back down to the coast. We then had fish and chips in Criccieth. When we returned to the campsite it was to a gale warning and a couple of snapped guy ropes! A sleepless night followed but luckily despite gusts of up to 50 MPH the tent remained on the ground.

Day 1: Kite Flying
Day 2: Caernarfon Castle
Day 3: Surf jumping
