Melianthus

Melianthus Leaf Shoot:

Its common name is Honey Bush, and its Botanic name: Melianthus Major.
This is a leaf shoot from this dramatic South African native that we have growing in our garden here in Belair, South Australia. It grows very easily and later will develop a rusty read flower head above the leaves in spring and summer. This will be followed by pale green pods containing black seeds.

For those not familiar with this plant, Melianthus is an evergreen perennial shrub with a height and spread of around 3m (10').
The lush, triffid like, deeply divided foliage has serrated edges and from certain angles the plant looks prehistoric in form.
It is very easy to grow in a wide range of climates.
