Thursday 23 August 2012: Oban Games 2012

The Oban Games were held today, known as The Argyllshire Gathering. Solo piping seems to be the most important event, the only world championship titles to be held outdoors. There is also Track and Field, Caber and fun events like tossing the sheaf which is open to anyone. And of course mustn't forget the dancing. Slightly disappointed that the dancing stage was well into the field where visitors fear to tread, so I couldn't get up close for shots of anything. Shame as the overall pitch of the Games is friendly and inclusive, inviting many people to compete in fun races and dashes, local people and visitors from abroad too. The Kilted Dash was my particular favourite:)

Anyhow the sun shone and the rain stayed away. Well done, Oban, another good day out.
