Today, the last of 2016, was a lovely day. We enjoyed a communion service at our church -- not something that happens every week in our tradition -- which was lovely as was the music. Another winter storm is working towards us but in the meantime the day was quite warm and we enjoyed a rather muddy walk with friends and dogs around a reservoir to the east of town. I took several good (in my mind) pictures and was trying to decide which picture to share with you and with which to represent the day. In the end I decided that while the sun on the snowy Blue mountains was gorgeous, and while the sunset down a row of trees magnificent, friends and family are the most valuable thing of all. My favorite photo is thus this candid of Katie and little Colin, friends and the family of a colleague of mine in the math department.

May you hold your friends and family close, and be blessed in 2017. Happy New Year!
