The accidental finding

On Coaley Peak

Looking towards Hetty Pegler's Tump (Iron Age hill fort) and Cam Long Down.

Perfect weather for a frosty afternoon walk! Afterwards we went to a nearby pub for a half pint and a plate of home made fishcakes. Mmmm.

Coaley Peak is the fourth most popular beauty spot in the UK apparently. (Who measures these things, and how? ) Some parts of the South Cotswolds are pretty high up! If you could bend your head to the right, out of the edge of the photo, you'd see the River Severn ribboning in the distance, with the Forest of Dean and Wales on the other side.

Both Berkeley and Oldbury nuclear power stations in the Severn Vale have been closed down, so the beauty spot feels a little less like the opening shot in a film about the Apocalypse than it used to. A new college has been built at Berkeley, and our local MP wants to reinstate a river crossing to enable students to attend 'from the other side'.
