One More For The Collection

Found in a secondhand shop on our way home, a nice first edition but, as number 53 in the series, quite a recent publication. This is interesting also in the collaboration of authorship.

The author Dr Winifred Pennington was asked to complete the commission of this edition which originally had been made to Professor W H Pearsall. Dissatisfied with his text, Prof. Pearsall destroyed it, intending to rewrite but died before doing so. At the request of his family and the editors, making use of Prof. Pearsall's plan and notes and adding their own specialist knowledge, Dr Pennington and others of his colleagues have produced a comprehensive story of the formation, habitats and occupation of the Lake District.
