Nature Reserve management

After yesterday's low day it made a good change to have a really good "burn" - the first of the season - great!.

It often seems that nature conservation involves an awful lot of destruction. But it's a case of restricting the growth of invasive species before they take over completely and wipe out everything else.

Today, our volunteer team of about a dozen hardy folk consigned vast quantities of rhododendron, sycamore and Japanese knot weed to the flames, opening up a large area for a much wider variety of wildlife.

It rained quite a lot but who cares? The sun came out occasionally.

Very tiring but enjoyable and satisfying.
