Just Visiting

This avian beauty is a Black Vulture. BVs are smaller but more aggressive than the Turkey Vultures, which are more common around here, and will drive TVs from carrion. They depend on their sharp eyes to find food, where TV's sense of smell leads them to their next meal. You can tell the difference between the two types because the Black Vulture's white wing tips are visible in flight. This Black Vulture was sitting on top of our greenhouse and allowed me to get fairly close to get this shot. That is until Tara took offense at it's presence. The close-up shows the bird's naked head, a very useful adaptation considering the Black Vulture's eating habits. Wishing you all a Peaceful Week. :)
