Day 2 - Cousin's visit

Okay, when someone tells me that they want to do 'everything' in 3 days, that's what's going to happen.

I think I exhausted Salman and Helena today ... and maybe myself a little. Today is Salman's birthday and one of the things he REALLY wanted to do was have dim sum, the REAL stuff.  So in Hong Kong, one of the best places to do that is at Maxim's at City Hall.  So off we went for his birthday dim sum meal.  One usually has to be there around 11.30am, cause that's when yum cha is eaten.  And to avoid the queues.  We walked straight in, thankfully.  And then the feasting began.  They loved everything and it was so good to see them enjoy this very Chinese meal.  Maxim is quite traditional, in that they roll trolleys around the very large restaurant and you can choose exactly which ones you want to eat.  Complemented of course by the tea, which it is all about.  Introduced them to Pu-er.

After lunch, which they treated me to, we walked through Statue Square and the main HSBC building, to St John's Cathedral, which is one of the oldest listed building in Hong Kong apparently.  Had a look around there and the gardens and then walked to Hong Kong Park, a sanctuary of calm and peace in the middle of the city.

Then through Pacific Place to Admiralty MTR to head to Kowloon side, to Mong Kok, as Helena wanted to buy Salman a very specific birthday gift of Nike Air Jordan shoes that he wanted.  Mission accomplished after scouring through many shops and we had one very happy Salman on our hands.

Salman is a bit of a foodie and asked where he could get a typical Chinese cleaver and so after Mong Kok we walked to Yau Ma Tei where they have a whole street of kitchen supplies, mainly for hotels, but anyone can shop there.  He found a really nice one, yay.

Next item on the list was the laser light show at the Avenue of Stars, but not before a quick trip to Toys'R'Us at Ocean Terminal, Harbour City.  My other cousin (Salman's youngest brother) asked if I could find/source a very specific toy for his kids, which is only available in HK and Korea.  Thankfully, Toys'R'Us had nearly the same thing and everyone was happy.

We were nice and early for the light show, so we really enjoyed resting our weary legs after all that walking. Hong Kong side and Kowloon!  Goodness.
Anyway, they really enjoyed the light show and videoed the whole thing. Headed home on the Star Ferry across to Hong Kong side and then our beloved DB ferry.  They like it.  And seem to like Hong Kong very much too.

Martin had a lovely meal prepared for us when we got home.  What a star!
