Happy "Holi"

Today all over India they are enjoying their second most important day of celebration. "Holi" or The Festival of Colours is a day to welcome spring, to meet with friends and family and to mend broken friendships. The fun starts early in the morning when people rush around throwing coloured powder or coloured water at anyone they see. Everyone takes part .....or else stay indoors. Nearly all shops are closed, most people are on holiday and visiting their families. The powder throwing stops at midday and then the family eating starts.

We left Lucknow in our bus at 1.00pm for the long drive to Varanasi. It was so interesting to see the towns and villages on holiday. The roads were empty apart from the motorbikes carrying at least three or 4 young men all with pink, green blue hair, faces and shirts.

My blip was taken from the moving bus and shows a group of men still enjoying themselves at the outskirts of their town. Look closely and you'll see the powders on some of them.
