Kathmandu: Bhaktapur, devastation and restoration

We have arrived back in Kathmandu today. Tomorrow we fly to Delhi and then on to home. It has been an interesting, fascinating and informative trip. Nepal and Bhutan could not be more different. From utter chaos in Kathmandu to sublime tranquility in Bhutan.

Kathmandu must rank as one of my favourite cities. It is industrious, ancient and has a charm and ambience all of its own.

The earthquake two years ago was devastating. How the people of Kathmandu are recovering from it is truly remarkable. There is still much devastation but also much restoration and new building. The restoration of the destroyed ancient buildings is unbelievable.

The blip is of part of the area, Bhaktapur, which was badly hit by the earthquake. It is known as cultural City. Restoration here is progressing at a great pace.

I hope the blip shoes just a part of the devastation and building work that is going on here.

The Nepalese are a remarkable and lovely people. They deserve all the help they can muster to rebuild their lives after such a devastating event.
