Long & Winding Road

Just crawled in from an absolutely epic day! A day in the field with R&F, we left in the grey with snow on top of the mountains but by the time we were fuelled with coffee and cakes the sun had come out and continued to blaze all day, along with a fairly brisk wind and only just above freezing temperatures. We've been across the border to Kerry via the incredible Healy Pass, the most amazing snaky pass that wends and winds its way up and over and cross the border. Can you see the road?? (please biggify)
The top is crested with a glowing white crucifixion tableau. Onwards towards Gleninchiquin along the coast road, the last 8kilometres a seriously small bouncy road with large potholes and no passing places. We disembarked to admire Uragh stone circle, perched overlooking a lake and waterfall - another extra. Rummaging in bags we found apples and chocolate and onwards to the Glen. This is the most incredible place (getting carried away with superlatives but no wonder). A hidden green valley surrounded by looming mountains and a huge waterfall tumbling down over the rocks, the gorse a vivid yellow and the larch just greening. Little lamb frolicked in the green and the views from above were sublime - lakes, mountains, cloudage, overhead the chattering of choughs and ravens.

Wrecked we headed into Kenmare and ate a hearty supper at 5pm in front of a roaring fire. Thus further fuelled we had time to explore two holy wells, one right down by the sea that I think must get covered at high tide, yet the water remains miraculously fresh.

Now enjoying a large glass of wine and feeling somewhat weatherbeaten.

The film last night - Toni Erdmann - was in my opinion pretty ghastly and exceptionally unfunny.  Nearly 3 hours long, I shall simply quote Morrissey for my thoughts towards the main character:
And the pain was enough to make
A shy, bald,* Buddhist reflect
And plan a mass murder

Substitute pacifist vegetarian. Himself thought it had redeeming features. I would be hard pushed to find any.

*Disappointingly, I have lived under a misapprehension re those lyrics I always thought it was shy-balled Buddhist which is more poetic in my opinion. I've obviously had too much fresh air today, ignore me.

Stop me  if you think you've heard this one before

Edit:And I have only just heard about what's happened at Westminster and feel frivolous and fortunate. Desperate.
