Over Elland Bridge

SUNDAY

The canal bridge at Elland was badly damaged during the 2015 Boxing Day floods and has since been rebuilt at great expense.

In January this year the new bridge was opened to road traffic meaning the end of the long detour. This week the canal under the bridge was re-opened allowing barges to travel between Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge on the Calder and Hebble Navigation.

There was a formal re-opening event this afternoon which I stumbled across on my way back from the supermarket. A trio of historic buses were involved in the celebrations including this 50 year old former Huddersfield Corporation rear-engined Daimler CVG6/30.
