Castleton Alpacas

We've had a fantastic walk this afternoon along paths we've not tried out before and we only lost the route once when we were well on the way back home.  I'm guessing that this path isn't walked very much and some of the stone steps in the walls were precarious at best.

When we were approaching Castleton village we came across these Alpacas who clearly wondered if we'd brought them food - but alas no!  Instead we headed for the cafe in the converted chapel and ate a lovely late lunch - the food was very good (just a bit too much for me)  and we were entertained from our balcony seats by the village bowling club. It's been such a glorious day and we thought it best to avoid the sea and sand spots which we expected to be very crowded.  We didn't see a soul until we got to the cafe, well apart from a couple of farmers in tractors.  We did see two curlews on the way home, so hopefully there will be babies before too long (24 May 2015) and there were quite a few small tortoiseshell and peacock butterflies out enjoying the sun and looking for a mate.  They were far too flighty to stop for a photo call though!

p.s. I went exploring on my morning walk and managed to find the alternative path along the edge of Danby Rigg which gave me a better vantage point to take photos of our cottages.
