A Day with the Tartan Army!

Yes, I know that it's an extremely poor photo but it was taken in weak lighting and furtively as I was concerned about any repercussions that might follow if I was spotted taking it on my phone on the journey back to Aberdeen from Glasgow tonight. And, yes, your eyes are not deceiving you - two inebriated members of the Tartan Army have indeed decided to lodge themselves in the luggage rack of our Scotrail train!

The day had started with the 0740 3-carriage train out of Aberdeen being hopelessly inadequate for the hordes of Scottish football supporters streaming down to Hampden for the World Cup Qualifier against Serbia.

I was travelling to a debating competition with three pupils and thought that nothing could be worse than the journey down; after all, we were stationary in Perth for 30 minutes while the guard waited for his instructions to be followed that a third of the passengers on the overcrowded train should disembark and get on an extra train that was being laid on and would arrive soon.

But the return journey, with its riotous singing, dancing in the aisles and various antics, was an even more extreme experience, and one that deserved to be 'recorded' in some way!
