Monday 10 September 2012: The old dynamite store

Another brooding sunset over Lake Ellesmere/Te Waihora this evening, with an oncoming southerly whipping up winds across the lake making it not the balmiest spring evening's location for a photoshoot.
After hot-footing from the Kaituna car park in a bid to catch the final light of the day, I arrived at the site of the old quarry at Ataahua - which now lies just to the right of the rail trail cycle way - rather wind-blown and eager to return to the warmth of the fire at home.
To get a nice vantage point of the lake and the oncoming weather, I set up the tripod up below the small rocky outcrop taking this photo towards the old dynamite store, where explosives woud have been kept powder dry, away from the moisture laden winds that blow across the vast stretch of shallow water that makes up Te Waihora.
