Dove Dale

Walked in the Peak District today...... Dove Dale is a beautiful valley along the river with wonderful scenery all around. We saw a heron perched high on the rocks above the stepping stones, waiting for a chance of a fish. We walked right up to Milldale, a stunning little village, with lovely little cottages. Visited the tiny Methodist Chapel there, which is very plain an very peaceful. It must be wonderful to hear the congregation sing Westleyan hymns there, only room for about twenty or so worshippers I should think.

From Milldale we headed up very steeply on a very narrow path and headed towards Damgate and Beechenhill, pleasant walking over the fields and the stiles at the stone walls. Some very narrow trails with a few difficult rocky bits, a bit of scrambling required. Back down past the Isaak Walton Hotel to finish the walk.

We had wonderful sunny and warm weather, and enjoyed our day thoroughly.
My photograph is at the stepping stones at the beginning of the walk, which caused many a laugh and even consternation from some when we were crossing.
This is better seen in large.
