If you can't beat them...

Bempton Day 1.

We got started on our journey reasonably on time.  We were heading for another visit to the Bempton cliffs with a hope of catching the Puffins feeding young.

We arrived at the caravan site by mid afternoon we were soon set up, so decided on a walk down to the cliffs.  Arriving at the place we knew there would be Puffins we found more than last time but no sign of them feeding young.

This Razorbill was posing nicely so I am making it today's shot.  There are about 110,000 pairs in the Uk which seems an awful lot.  However their conservation status is Amber.  There are various criteria which put a species into Amber category:=, the most likely in this case is they have shown historical decline in the UK with some recent recovery.  UK populations are down by 20% on 40 years ago  however there has been a very slight recovery of 0.07% over the last 20 years.
