The Old Forge (Friday 7th July 2017)
With a shade temperature of thirty degrees I was looking for somewhere cool, and found it in the outbuilding. Restoration work is almost complete but it has yet to be plastered and decorated. However I have temporarily installed some hi-fi and an old table and found it a pleasant spot to write up my journal, drink some Fentiman's dandelion and burdock and read an article on Norah Jones from the March 2007 issue of Mojo.
It was the first time I had use of the room since spring 2016, when work began at an inexorably slow rate.
Gardening Day was postponed until Monday as R.'s son had a sick note, but I had a visit from the electrician who connected the loft power sockets to the mains.

Rita Wright - Love Child (Demo) (recorded 19 September 1968, Golden World, Detroit MI)
The CD I was playing in the outbuilding was The Rita Wright Years - Rare Motown 1967-1970. In the seventies she became quite famous as Syreeta but recorded lots of stuff before then that was not released (apart from one single), as was the case a lot of the time with Motown recordings. As well as making potential releases she also made thousands of demos of songs for other artists, notably Diana Ross; in fact she was in the running to replace Diana Ross in the Supremes when she went solo. This is the demo for the Supremes' Love Child, which includes a verse that was omitted from the final version.
