A sky full of Bee-eaters

Around 50 of these colourful, acrobatic birds kept us company today.

We were at the head of the Il-bruka valley. Lots for raptors came over (like yesterdays honey buzzard), but we were also graced with 4 Black storks.

On the way out to today's watchpoint, I was saying to my colleagues that it was a day like this that we had 3 white storks come in, and I got a phone call to drop everything and race to Mgarr. Less than an hour and we had the call, we raced over to keep watch. From 3pm until almost midnight. The night watch is in place, but so are the hunters. And even though these birds are protected they are worth around $2000 as a trophy.

Here's hoping they make it through the night.
