Still

Still is a hauntingly beautiful painting by Alison Watt which hangs in the Memorial Chapel of Old St. Paul’s in Edinburgh.

To commemorate the unveiling in 2004, the Scottish poet, Alan Spence wrote a special poem.

A seamless garment
white robe hanging
in folds enfolding
time and space
folds in fabric
a universe opening
from this still centre
state of grace
heart of matter
flowering unfolding
white rose white rose
white rose
rose again
