The Buttonwood.... Native to Southern Florida....

This tropical native of the Keys, Miami area, the Caribean Islands,  is a Buttonwood plant.  It grows in very wet, salty or fresh, waters.  It is very hardy...  deep rooted and resilent.  The Buttonwood is beaten by power ocean waves, hurricane winds and rain, currents that erode the sand or soil it grows in.
My Buttonwood above has a twisted trunk, broken branches and when I got it, it was stripped of leaves (wind damage)  It is growing very well in my backyard...  looks healthy and green, has been wired and fed nutrients.  You can so from the trunk upward and to the right, the power of storms and how it has encouraged this bonsai to grow....  giving in to the elements, but too stubborn to give up!  I like this hearty, stubborn, and interesting bonsai.
