The Desert

Sometimes travelling is a bit of pain.  Today half of Santiago decided to fly somewhere else.  There were enormous queues at the airport and every bit of two hours was needed for a domestic check in and boarding.  Crikey.  We flew north over the Andes salt pans and volcanos and arrived at Calama for our next adventure.

We were met at the airport and driven the 100 km or so to San Pedro de Atacama.  The wind turbines in the first extra were shortly after we left the airport.

I also put an extra of a part of the road just to give you a feel in the next extra and the next extra is one of the many shrines you see along the road.  There is a story about them which I won't go into now as it is past midnight again and we have more adventures tomorrow.  Suffice it to say there is often a BVM in the shrines and they usually represent offering to a person who was killed or died at that place.

We have arrived at paradise.  A relaxing afternoon, a couple of pisco sours, a sumptuous dinner and then some star gazing.  They have a telescope up on a hill so we have just come back from seeing galaxies, stars and the magellanic nebular.  What a great time.  This is look back to the accommodation with the less magellanic above the hill.

I can't wait until tomorrow!
