Saturday 17 January 2009: Mock-Georgian
They're replacing the horrible old Southgate shopping area of Bath with a mock-Georgian, reconstituted bath stone, shopping area. It'll be better than the horrible 1960's abomination that has blighted Bath for the last 40-odd years but I wish the planners had had the guts to go for something more interesting than trying to re-create Bath as was using modern technology. To make matters worse, the stone is apparently shipped to Italy for processing before being returned to Bath as huge pre-shaped slabs :-(
It's amazing how fast the work is proceeding. Here are some of the cranes, reflected in the windows of the Future Publishing building just opposite the Forum.
