Deer stalking

I spent a lovely afternoon today with Son2 in Petworth Park watching the fallow deer rut. We were a couple of weeks earlier than usual and that may be why there was very little actual rutting action going on. There were, however, a number of rather spent looking deer around, including this one relaxing in the shade, so perhaps we just got the wrong time of day. On the bright side, the soporific deer were quite happy for us to get up close and personal with them. There were also the usual high numbers of people lurking behind trees with tripods and big lenses who are almost as interesting to observe as the deer.
