View up the Waimakariri River

We're on route to the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand.

It's always a bonus to pass through Arthur's Pass in shorts and t-shirt. This was one of those days, made all the better as it was the start of a holiday - all the tingle of impending excitement and adventure.

This view is up into the head waters of the Waimakariri River, one of the great braided rivers that cross the east coast Canterbury Plains and empty into the Pacific Ocean.
