Hopetoun House

After an overnight flight (with little sleep) we arrived in Edinburgh around 7:30 am and after getting through customs and collecting the luggage we walked to the car rental office. We took some time to study the car and figure out where everything was. Since we are not used to the steering wheel being on the right side of the car we wanted to acclimate ourselves. We also needed to figure out where we wanted to go first.

It was much too early to check into our B&B, so we opted to start our sightseeing right away. So it was off to Hopetoun House. This place is absolutely beautiful and really set the stage for a wonderful holiday. We got there a bit too early and had to wait for them to open. It was a self-guided tour through the house but the staff was super nice and very informative. They knew so much about the history of the house ~ it was wonderful to talk with them. We spent about 4 hours there enjoying both the inside and out (as seen here).

After leaving the Hopetoun House we drove to our B&B. We were getting tired by now but wanted to stay awake for as long as possible. After checking in we decided to find an Asda supermarket. Our GPS decided to send us on a zigzag path through Edinburgh. Not being used to the narrow streets and driving on the left side, it was interesting to say the least. Needless to say for the trip back to the B&B we checked the map first and found a different more direct route.

Today was a wonderful start to our vacation but it was lights out by 9:30 pm!
