"Autumn Colours over the Viaduct"

That was the name of today's long walk from Haltwhistle to the Langley viaduct and back, using a circular route. It was another stunning day, with bright warm sun after a heavy early frost. The Langley viaduct is a magnificent piece of engineering and stands elegantly over the River South Tyne. It supported the railway from Haltwhistle to Alston in days gone by.

We walked down the steps to the river bank to have lunch in the sun. It was hard to move on with the walk. Everyone seemed happy, even when they had to tackle thick mud on the riverside path. What a great group of people come to walk with us.

Compare today with last year's blip!

My knees/legs are rather sore and tired tonight but I had walked a total of 37 miles since Saturday morning so I feel suitably virtuous and just ate 3 chocolate digestives!
