THE Grumpy Bus Driver

Tuesday 9 October 2012: V is for...

You know those moments which make you smile like an idiot? Well, tonight's shift has resulted in one of those moments for me...

It has nothing to do with the road works causing minor delays on the glorious 37 route tonight. Apparently there is a gas leak just off of Stratford Road; oh how I do love temporary traffic lights!

It also had nothing to do with the group of drunken lads disagreeing with my decision to not allow them on my bus. Well, firstly I don't want vomit all over my bus; who does? Secondly, I don't want that one lad propping up the wall making an unintentional decision to hug the floor while I'm driving... Thirdly, no matter how much a drunken lad complains about it, all he will get from me from then on is the customer service number to whinge to come morning! That is, assuming he remembers...

It does have something to do with a minor annoyance of mine, however. During the day there are occasions when a 37 bus will run as a 37E and terminate early, usually in Acocks Green to return to the depot. It's shocking how many people don't read the destination on buses as they approach! Of the three night buses, two do this, mine being the second.

As I rounded the corner, a young lady was stood in the shelter waiting. Yes, isn't it always to do with a young lady? She had left something on the bus running ahead of mine and wanted to know how to get it back. Stuff procedure, it was past midnight, freezing cold and the young lass was on her own!

I gave her a lift up to the depot to retrieve her lost items, then offered to walk her back down to Acocks Green; the least I could do given the circumstances! Turned out our paths home let us walk further together. Jamming to my iTunes library had nothing on sharing a conversation with such a lovely character!

So, I'm home enjoying a cup of tea and 007: Never Say Never Again, my only regret is not getting more than just her name...did I say she was stunning?! No? Well she was more than stunning! And V, my fellow blippers, is for Veronica!

Very Happy Days!!!
