Harvest Festival

One of the (few?) advantages of being incapacitated by long term illness is that on ones 'off' days is that you are able to offer a professional standard photographic service to charities - and churches.

St Thomas', in Salisbury, usually mega over-shadowed by the Cathedral as far as tourists and visitors are concerned, was the original church where those constructing the 'New' Cathedral worshipped, so it's OLD. Being in the city centre, St Thomas' is still where dignitaries go through ceremonies and such.

Though not a church-goer myself, I know many who do, especially to this one and I try and photograph such events for them. The generally older ladies of the parish put so much effort into making up these displays but then are limited by their compact cameras that just bash a load of flashlight over their creations.

So, natural light (dull, grey and rather cold) with an old Nikkor 135mm f2; so old it weighs nearly a kilo, all metal and has very stiff manual focus. No tripod - just half an hour of my time, when I'd really rather be at home, probably in bed, due to an 'off' day. The church will get 20 or so nicely edited pics to put up on their website, for free, of course, but I do get a name credit - and like anything voluntary and charitable a sense of quiet usefullness.
