Coquerel's Sifaka

Madagascar Day 1

Had an early start this morning (which turned out to be a late start compared to some of the upcoming early starts), leaving the hotel at 7:15 am. It was going to be a long drive today and to break up the day we went to the Lemur Park just outside Tana to view the free roaming lemurs and have some lunch. Most of the lemurs were previously pets in Madagascar. This is a Coquerel's Sifaka and one we would not see in the wild as they live in the far north of the island. He was a proud father of a cute Coquerel baby that was born in the park a few weeks ago.

After lunch we spent the rest of the day driving south east, saw lots of rice fields and experienced the common smoky smell of burning charcoal along the route. We ended up driving in the dark for the last half hour or so seeing some dangerous driving due to large pot holes, cyclists and Zebu with no lights or visibility of them in the road! However there was caramel bananas for desert today mmm!
