Forming the Fleet...

The fleet is being formed for the exhibition.

Each school exploring the work of George Wyllie is being represented at the exhibition by a paper boat which the pupils in that school have created. Sometimes that means one a class or group has worked on, and sometimes it means one made by an individual and selected to be 'their boat'.

Today, we had the pleasure of being sung out by P4 at St Fillan's PS in Houston, Renfrewshire as we left with their selected boat, one made by Adam. The song? 'The Paper Boat Song', of course. They had already enthusiastically explained about their research, their writing, about Matthew's mum helping him find out more about Wyllie, about Benjamin and his dad having a Viking ceremony for a boat made at home, just like George Wyllie and his Straw Locomotive. And more.

We visited Kilbowie PS, West Dunbartonshire where P7b were adding the last of their 307 wee boats to go inside the one they made to represent the school. One wee boat for each pupil in the school. They showed us their 'Wyllie Wall' and their drawings and their poems, told us about their ebook. And more.

And we finished the day at St Monica's (Milton) in Glasgow where a pupil in P6 had been instructing the class on how to build a paper boat, which they all enthusiastically did. The pupils are just starting their work on Wyllie and have all sorts of questions and ideas about how its going to go and what direction it will take. More later.

The fourth boat in the photo is from S1 at Notre Dame HS, Glasgow picked up earlier in the week and a taste of their work to come, 'burd' scul?tures for the exhibition. And more.

So, we're forming the fleet... with boats big and small, boats with funnels, boats with flags. And more.
