Low-rise Or High-rise?

We were almost home when we noticed a thick haar over the Forth and, being the curious sort, diverted to get a better look, ending up on Blackford Hill (way past home...).

I took several photos but liked this one due to the odd lump in the middle, which we could not identify, sticking up out of the mist. Back home and under the tutelage of Miss Flum (gosh, I'm going to miss her when she moves out), by navigating between the church tower and spire of Holy Corner in the centre and the verdigris domes of the old Donaldson's School to right of centre, we worked out that it is Martello Court, a 23 storey high block of flats on the North side of town, only three storeys of which are above the haar. (That is the mark on the  map, it is easier to google the Royal Observatory on Blackford Hill ). A little earlier the entire block had been buried in the haar as it did not appear in our first photographs.

As we stood we could see the advance of the haar as it threatened to engulf Fettes College and encroach upon the foot of Corstorphine Hill but an overdue lunch and a mountain of Christmas preparations beckoned us home.
