The Perfect Christmas

As we near the house we hear
the laughter and music from within.
We know that in the oven
a huge turkey will be roasting in its skin
and that merry Auntie Irene
will be knocking back the gin.

Presents will be piled high
beneath a tall and decorated tree.
Some will have our names on them.
And look, this will be something to see,
the wreathed door will swing open to herald
the warmest of welcomes for you and me.
