Nicky and her Nikon

Hello Switzerland

We were up at 4am this morning to leave home at 5am - we still left home a little late but thankfully Heathrow Airport was not nearly as busy as I thought it would be, possibly as we were there so early. Some flights to Germany were already cancelled due to bad weather but luckily we had no such problems.

When we arrived in Zurich there was no snow in the city, but there was snow on the distant peaks. Bianca and Kevin were so excited to see the snow, and as we drove higher up towards the mountains there was more and more snow. By the time we arrived it was already closing in with low cloud cover - and about an hour later it started snowing lightly. This scene looked best in mono as it was quite colourless.

We dropped our suitcases off at the apartment and then went back in to the village to get our ski passes, hire our skis, go confirm the ski school for Bianca and Kevin tomorrow and then do a large grocery shop - I am still wincing at the cost of the groceries here....the strong Swiss Franc and the high cost of living make food so expensive here.

The forecast for tomorrow is snow, but Bianca and Kevin have their first group lesson so we will be going up the mountain despite the predicted poor conditions. The boys are champing at the bit to go skiing and don't mind the weather - in fact Adam is ski racing again tomorrow in a local club competition.

Tonight Luke is cooking a Thai curry for supper - I happened to look back at my blip from a year ago (to remind me what the weather was like this time last year) and what a coincidence but on this day a year ago Luke also made a Thai curry for our supper. It's obviously National Thai Curry Day!!
