Remember when winter was fun?

Dear Diary,

Here I am tobogganing with the boys!  I'm at the end and my brother is in the yellow jacket.  We had gotten the toboggan for Christmas that year, maybe around 1963.  We lived across the street from an apple orchard with some great hills that were perfect for launching our toboggan.  What fun we had.  Cold weather didn't bother us in the least.  We also had a round metal disc called a Flying Saucer that was great fun to use on the small embankment by our house.

Now, the winter has lost a bit of the sparkle for me.  The frigid temperatures, snow and ice are problematic to say the least.  One worries about falling and breaking a hip, frozen pipes, and ice dams on the roof.  But I can still remember the sheer joy of flying down a frozen slope and rolling off into a snow bank and that young girl is still inside somewhere.

The good news is it is 12F this morning and it will be in the 40'sF by Thursday.  A little melt down is expected as our bizarre winter weather continues.
