Little Blipper

To Edinburgh's King's Theatre with - look! - EdiSteve and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. Beverley Callard stars, but Joe McGann is sick :(

And here's the verdict!

Just been to the King's Theatre with Steve to see The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. Just wonderful. Jess Robinson is a superb LV, the shy songstress who finally finds her own voice. Bev Callard surprises by giving us far more than a Liz McDonald reprieve as mother Mari - it's so long since I saw her on Two Pints of Lager that I'd forgotten she had such fine comic chops. Joe McGann was absent but understudy Philip Andrew slotted in without a hitch, while Ray Quinn was sweet and strong as Billy. And Duggie Brown as Mr Boo and Sally Plumb as Sadie provided strong support, as did the ensemble members playing club acts and running the pre-show and interval entertainment. It's really is one of the strongest touring companies I've seen, in a great production that serves the story most exceeding well.
