The Other Castle

Half-hidden by trees and silhouetted by the cold light of a Winter sunset, Craigmillar Castle sits forebodingly on a hill. It's not often I pass by on the old road and get to see this medieval ruin.

Looking out over Edinburgh's southern suburbs and now a scheduled ancient monument, this 15th Century Tower House was where Mary, Queen of Scots, came to stay to convalesce following the birth of her son, the future King James VI and I.
