tempus fugit

Pink Two

I was biting into one of the ripe figs that most surprisingly have ripened on my tree this month, when I realised that it was another chance of a pink blip for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I also reminded why the fruit of the fig has been so often associated with femininity.

DH Lawrence wrote a poem, Figs, on the proper way to eat them. In the 1969 film of his novel, Women in Love, director Ken Russell placed the lines in the mouth of Alan Bates as Rupert Birkin. This incomparable scene is viewable here - compulsive watching not just for the sensual words as for the chance to see all those exalted British actors, many dead now, looking so young.
