Waters of Philorth

I have no idea about the origin of the name, but this huge beach (extra)  just East of Fraserburgh is magnificent.  Apparently the massive dunes are largely the result of the existence of a row of concrete anti tank blocks , which provides a structure for the sand to collect against and the grass to take root. We saw a massive row of anti tank blocks along Spey Bay yesterday, too, many of them now completely covered by a huge pebble mound along the beach. M is a military history junkie, so all this was a dream for him.

I was fascinated by the shipwreck, which looks pretty old and rusty. On a summer day it must be a great spot.  Today it was bitterly cold so we didn't hang about long and we had to get down the road back home.
