Beach Interlude

And then, in true February fashion, we experienced every kind of wintry weather under the sun. Or rather, NOT under the sun, as the sun never really shone on this day.

But the sky did give us snow and sleet and freezing rain and ice. And the University, famous for never closing, gave us a snow day. So I got to stay home; it was even a freebie!

The accumulation of precipitation in inches wasn't much, as the wetness that fell was of the dense and heavy kind, unlike the soft and fluffy flakes we got on Sunday.

It was a back-breaker, but when it ended late in the day, my husband and I shoveled quickly before the temperatures fell into the teens overnight, transforming everything on the ground into solid ice.

But while all of that weather was happening, I was sort of trapped indoors, more or less. In self-defense, I set up a little beach interlude. And took a tiny vacation with friends, if only in my mind, and if only for a few minutes.

What we've got in this little diorama: let's see . . . seashells, Crittergators, even a sand dollar. In fact, it looks like a party at the beach under pretty blue skies with white puffy clouds.

Hooray! Come join us! We wish you were here!

The song: The Go-Go's, with Vacation, from 1982.
