Above And Beyond...

Johannesburg National Botanical Gardens

After a leisurely lay in, our hosts (Mrs BB brother and wife) decided on a walk around Johannesburg National Botanical Gardens. It's a very large park with a big lake on which there are the customary ducks and boats.

It was a very enjoyable last day in South Africa, chatting as we walked in the sunshine. The blipfoto was taken as we walked along the path through the trees, shaded by the sun of which the light that got through dappled on the floor. I took it in black and white as the theme of wide wednesday is 'mono'.

After a chicken caesar salad at Sandton Maul we headed back to the house to pack before leaving at 5.30pm for Jo'berg International Airport for our 9.50pm flight back to Heathrow, London.

It's been a long trip. Enjoyable. It's been fabulous getting to this great country and fufilling a promise we made to Mrs BB parents when they were alive. They loved it and visited every other year for months on end, and travelled around by car to various places and even into Nairobi and Botswana! We haven't fallen in love with South Africa but would definitely visit again. There's a big contrast between the minority rich and the majority poor. We found buying goods and food expensive but eating out very cheap for us Brits.......again a surprising contrast.

The best thing was seeing Mrs BB older brother as he's not well and is undergoing treatment. We're hoping they may join us on a holiday later this year. You never know what's going to happen.
