A quiet day at home

A Winter Morning
By Ted Kooser

A farmhouse window far back from the highway
speaks to the darkness in a small, sure voice.
Against this stillness, only a kettle's whisper,
and against the starry cold, one small blue ring of flame.

I took your wise suggestions to heart and made Tuesday a quiet day at home, gathering myself. Taking care of small tasks, reorganizing.

I am back-blipping now, and another hideous school shooting has taken place. From the news: "NBC News has compiled a list of shooting incidents that have resulted in injuries and/or deaths at elementary, middle and high schools since the beginning of 2018. As of Feb. 14, a total of 20 people have been killed and more than 30 have been injured in these shootings."

Guns. We have guns everywhere in this country, available to everyone, no matter their background, and the gun lobby has a grip on our supposedly elected officials.
