Sgwarnog: In the Field

Indoors

Our big day out was suitably athletic in nature; a trip down to Birmingham for the British Indoors.

Thankfully the trains were running smoothly, so we pulled into New Street on time and then walked through the city centre out to the Arena, which is quite a nice little route to show of bits of Birmingham old and new. I tried to explain to the kids that they were one eighth Brummie, thanks to my Dad's Mum, but I'm not sure they were that bothered.

We were suitably impressed and entertained by seven hours of running, jumping and putting and waved our little Welsh flag at appropriate points. British Athletics had made attendance complusory for anyone wishing to be selected for the World Indoors which will be held in the same venue in two weeks time, so a number of the sport's bigger names were competing - you may recognise some Olympic and World champions and medallists from my selection of the day's podium appearances.

It was another long journey home but again everything was running smoothly. The dilemma for Sunday will be whether to spend the day running and jumping, or watching Day 2 of the event on the TV. Perhaps a bit of both.
