Ottawa Curling Club

The best thing about making it to Sunday was playing at the Ottawa Curling Club. It is the oldest club in Ottawa having been established in 1851. In December 1916, the club played its first games at the current facility.

The woodwork in the building is beautiful and the grand staircase that leads up to the locker rooms is lined with photos of many Canadian curling champions who have called the club home over the years. Currently the OCC can boast that at one time it was the home rink of Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist in Mixed Doubles, John Morris. It is also the home of the Canadian Women’s Olympic team, skipped by Rachel Homan.

The ice at the club lives up to the expectations of the champions it produced, so of course that had to be today’s blip. It was a real pleasure to curl here.

The pleasure was made better because my cousin from Ottawa came to watch our game and afterwards we had a chance to catch up. It was great to see her.

And, we won the OCC game so advanced to the Second Event finals, which we also won!

Overall it was a good weekend (even if it was a little dampened by the sniffles).
