A Labourers Co- Operative Coir factory

Coir is made using the outside fibres from the coconut... this factory removes fibres from coconut, makes it into ropes, then weaves it into rugs and matting. All the workers are paid the same. It was like a pre-industrial revolution small factory. Very had physical work. These women are winding hanks of coir rope into large reels , I think to be used in the next stage of the long carpet making process.
Many people were not at work today as it is a major Hindu religious festival.
There are apparently a lot of co-ops in Kerala, as it’s been a socialist state for years. And it still feels the influence of it historic matriarchal system.
